Chain Reaction
Chain Reaction is a team made up of adults, young adults, and teens. It takes place every two years.
Our Chain Reaction teams spend months training and preparing for the trip. Our goal is to partner with local organizations that are serving their communities. Some notable ones are the House of Hope in Cornwall, and the Café Rencontre in Quebec City.
We also seek to offer bike repair clinics in the communities we stop at free of charge. We bring many parts and tools with us in our support vehicle, and we do our best to fix the bikes that come our way.
In addition to being a practical service, we find that the bike repair clinics also provide opportunities for some great conversations. In fact, the premise of fixing bikes is modeled after the passage in Luke where Jesus washes the disciple’s feet.
Chain Reaction has been happening since 2005, and has been foundational and transformative for the youth and adults that have participated.
Mission Statement of Chain Reaction: Build God’s Kingdom through partnerships, servant leadership, and investment in the next generation.
Parents:
- We believe teens are far from fragile and can do wonders
- We believe teens want to change the world for the better
- We believe teens want to have some healthy fun
Youth:
- Challenge yourself and see how much you can accomplish
- Do something that benefits others, and see what it does for you
- Have fun with new and old friends
August 10-18, 2024
We will be doing Chain Reaction this summer from August 10-18.
This summer we will ride our bicycles on a one week journey from KBC to Smith Falls, Brockville, Cornwall and Montreal. This is a 375km ride and we will be training hard as a team throughout the late spring and summer, to work up the endurance necessary. This is a big commitment, and it will have a life-changing impact on all who participate.
In each location along the way, we run free bike clinics and help the local churches with whom we are staying. Part of our summer training includes teaching the team how to repair bikes through training sessions and local bike repair clinics. Our youth learn the valuable skills needed to help fix bikes, but also the importance of serving our neighbour.
Application Deadline is March 21, 2024
