Pastoral Care
Who We Are
Pastoral Care Team members are a group of believers called by our Lord to serve the Body of Christ at Kanata Baptist Church. We are commissioned by the pastors and elders of Kanata Baptist Church and have received training specific to the ministry of caring for others. Most team members have completed the 10-week Pastoral Care Basic Training Course presented by The Ottawa Pastoral Care Training Program.
Through the gift of presence, we walk alongside people through life transitions, joy and sorrow, and other challenging times. Our desire is to bring a message of Hope in Jesus Christ into their situation, sometimes conveyed through our silent presence, and sometimes through the reading of Scripture, prayer, conversation, and encouragement. We listen with compassion and a non-judgmental approach, accepting everyone at their point of need. Confidentiality is always respected.
What We Do
HOSPITAL VISITS: We are a friendly face to those in the hospital and offer encouragement through prayer, reading Scripture, conversation, or quietly being there.
BEREAVEMENT CARE: Gently supporting those who are grieving by offering hope, strength and encouragement through this difficult season of life.
NEW BABIES: We celebrate with you after the arrival of a new baby, bringing a small gift to welcome the new addition to your family.
HOME VISITS: If you are no longer able to attend church, or are convalescing, we will visit at your home or care facility upon request. Being away from friends and family can be an isolating experience, and we wish to keep in touch with you and help you feel cared for.
If you know of someone who is not well or would like a visit or phone call, please advise the church office. Members of the Pastoral Care Team are also available to speak with you over the phone and to pray with you.
Welcoming Newcomers
We desire to make welcome those who are new to the faith community at Kanata Baptist Church. Visit our Welcome Centre (located in the Church foyer) and you will be greeted with a friendly smile and have an opportunity to chat. Pamphlets about KBC, our beliefs and programs are available.
Enjoying Fellowship at KBC
We encourage the congregation to linger after services for a time of visiting and getting to know each other better. Creating community among our people strengthens us as individuals and as a body of believers. Members of the Pastoral Care Team are present in the foyer to get to know you better.
Friends of Pastoral Care
One of our most important ministries is through the work of the Friends of Pastoral Care. These individuals provide practical help to those who are struggling: transportation to and from appointments; repositioning furniture; making minor repairs; and sometimes providing meals. The practical help and care they show is a great benefit to our congregation. If you would like to participate in this ministry, or know someone who requires assistance, contact the church office.
